Chinese HPV Vaccine to Be Available in May

Girls and women can begin receiving China’s first domestically produced HPV vaccine from May 1, state broadcaster CCTV reported last Friday. The vaccine, called Cecolin, protects against two of the common strains of the human papillomavirus, which together are responsible for 70% of cervical cancer cases, according to the World Health Organization.
中国官方电视台中央电视台上周五报道，从5月1日起，女孩和妇女可以开始接受中国首批国产HPV疫苗。根据世界卫生组织的数据，这种名为“塞科林”的疫苗可以抵御两种常见的人类乳头瘤病毒，这两种病毒共同导致了70%的子宫颈癌病例。
Cecolin is the first made-in-China HPV vaccine to be approved in the country. Previously, domestic regulators had approved two internationally produced HPV vaccines, Cervarix and Gardasil 9, but they remain inaccessible to many in China due to limited supply and high prices.

A course of Cecolin costs 658 yuan ($93) for girls aged 9 to 14. Those over 14 would require a booster shot, bringing the total cost of the vaccine to 987 yuan ($140). “Both are less than half of the price of imported vaccines,” CCTV said.
据央视报道：对于9—14岁女孩来说，一个疗程的疫苗花费大约是658元人民币（约合93美元）。14岁以上的将需要一个加强针，疫苗一共花费987元人民币（约合140美元）。两种疫苗价格都比进口疫苗便宜一半。
